Module 11c |  Organise Roles: Clarify Your Organisational Structure

Hi and welcome to Module 11 of the Growth System, and the first Module of the ‘Break free’ track.

If you want a turn-key business that can run smoothly and profitably whether you’re there or not, you’ll need to take ownership. You do that by creating clarity for your people.

The first step in that process is to create structural clarity. And that means designing an organisational structure that eliminates role confusion by outlining which jobs must be performed to achieve success and who’s responsible for each job. And that’s what this module is all about.

In particular, we’ll explore:

1. Why an organisational structure is important; and

2. How to create a clear organisational structure for your business to support your ongoing growth.

Action Steps


  • Go to the Core Task Areas tab of your Breaking Free template, and note down which tasks occur or should occur in each of the core task areas of your business.
  • Go through the tasks in each area of your business and group them into coherent jobs, with appropriate job titles. You’ll find a range of sample jobs titles in your template to help spark your thinking.
  • If you created a hand drawn org chart, it’s time to enter it into the excel template (via the Org chart tab).
  • Allocate people to jobs.
  • Analyse your org chart to determine which jobs need to be filled or changed to help you achieve your vision.
  • Make any changes you think are necessary to the chart, or notes for yourself indicating that you need to fill a role.
  • Using your answers to the above questions, create a simple list of all the jobs you aim to hire for over the next 3-5 years, with anticipated dates for when you’d like to hire them – and place them in chronological order. This will form your recruitment plan.
